Santa Anas

And here I thought I was moving away from the risk of hurricane-force winds coming in from the east.

No, I was just moving away from hurricane-force winds coming in from the east carrying lots and lots of water. Dry hurricane-force winds coming in off the desert -- them's the Santa Anas. I think they occasionally get some press for worsening the periodic brush fires in this part of the country.

Right now, they're buffeting the house something fierce. Tried to blow the fence over. The palm trees are dancing like there's no tomorrow. It's kind of fun to listen to, but we're hoping we don't wake up to downed trees or power lines in the morning.
